bugatti veyron , engine

Basically how Bugatti was able to design an engine so compact was simple, by TURBOCHARGING.
Another means of modification, turbocharging, basically just by stuffing more air into the cylinder on each intake stroke and there u have it, the engine power increases.
so what bugatti did was stuff twice as much air into each cylinder to burn twice as much gasoline. in reality that is not quite as possible as u would get an uneven ratio, but that was what bugatti did. bugatti used a mazimum turbo boost of 18 psi to double the output power of the engine.( to generate that much air, bugatti had to use four separate turbo chargers).

The second thing bugatti did was to keep the RPM redline high and to lower the lag time when u press the accelerator. how? simple by doubling the amount of cylinders, and have a very rare 16 cylinder engine( not even an f1 car has 16 cylinder).
There is two ways on how to design a 16 cylinder engine
* by having 2 v8 engines placed side by side
* or by having 2 in-line 8 engines placed side by side
By designing an engine so unique, bugatti had to come up with something different. they merged 2 v8 engines and let them both share the same crankshaft. which then becomes a w16 engine found in bugatti veyron.

That was not all, bugatti w16 engine had extra special features like;
* 4 valves per cylinder(multi valve) which comes to a total of 64 valves
* It also has a DRY SUMP LUBRICATION SYSTEM borrowed from formula 1 race cars, along with an intricate oil path to ensure proper lubrication and cooling for all the 16 cylinders.
* It also has electronically controlled, continously variable cam timing to create optimal performance at different engine RPM settings.
* It also has a massive radiator to deal with all the waste heat that burns up to 1.33 gallons of gasoline per minute.

Basically everything about the engine is superb, It is also remarkably compact. measuring of just 710 mm(27 inches) long, 889 mm (35 inches) wide and 730 mm(28.7 inches) high. this is the beauty of the bugatti w 16 approach, the engineers manged to fit 1,000 hp into a reasonably sized package.
